[Abk. für Cross Switch, dt. »kreuzförmiger Umschalter«], Umschaltbox mit je zwei Ein- und Ausgängen, mit deren Hilfe zwei Computer auf zwei unterschiedliche Peripheriegeräte zugreifen können. Durch einen Schalter auf der Vorderseite der Geräte wird ausgewählt, welcher Eingang mit welchem Ausgang, d. h. welcher Computer mit welchem Gerät verbunden wird. Die dazu notwendigen kreuzförmig miteinander verbundenen Kabel gaben dem Gerät seinen Namen. X-Switches sind auch in anderen (nicht X-förmigen) Konfigurationen erhältlich, etwa zur Verbindung von vier Computern mit einem Drucker usw. In der Regel existieren keine Sicherungsschaltungen, sodass durch das Umschalten auf einen anderen Rechner ein laufender Druckvorgang o. Ä. unterbrochen wird und der betreffende Computer abstürzen kann. Kann nur ein Computer mit zwei Geräten verbunden werden, bezeichnet man die Box als T-Switch.
